CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

The month of May is Respect for Life Month.  The Knights of Columbus support and very strongly promote respect for human life and dignity of every person and essential role of the family.

We know that we live in a “culture of death” as Pope John Paul 11 calls it.  We are so entrenched in this culture of death, violence and degradation of the human person that it seems impossible to change the situation.  We have been told we cannot stop Planned Parenthood, cannot change the “politically correct” to the “God-correct” cannot expect people to be pure, and cannot stop our government from financing the holocaust of babies in the womb.  Of course, by our own power, we cannot do anything {John 15:5).  So our Pro-death anti-life enemies are correct.  But God can do and has done all things – “for God everything is possible (Matthew 19:26).

So don’t be discouraged.  Jesus already has won the victory of life over death when He died on the cross and rose from the dead.  God’s love has conquered the death.  Planned Parenthood and the “politically correct” are destined to be thrown into the same garbage dump of history as the Third Reich and the Soviet Union have been.

Jesus alone will stand the test of time.  He alone will reign supreme.

As a member of the Knights of Columbus continue your good works by promoting life.

Worship Christ, “the way, and the Truth and the Life.

Praise Jesus, “the Resurrection and the life”.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers,

On behalf of our entire Executive, we truly hope that every brother & his family had a very Joyous Easter. Now that spring has finally arrived, we hope the weather will get much better.

March was a very busy month, and I would like to thank a number of people for all their hard work with the many functions that were held in March.

Robert Jones Council Bowling – Sunday March 6th

I would first like to thank Bro. Phil Lefrancois for once again chairing the Annual Robert Jones bowling fun day. This year it was our turn to host this annual event. It was a pleasure to host G.K. Tony Longo, his wife Charlene & all the members & their wives from Robert Jones Council. We had a very fun afternoon of bowling at the Pladium in Windsor, and then we hosted a dinner at our hall. Everyone in attendance enjoyed Broasted Chicken for dinner. Thanks to PGK Elie Bertrand, Bro(s) Dale Martin, Wayne Hanson, Phil Lefrancois & DGK Dave Taylor for their help in the kitchen. Thanks to Shelly Lefrancois & Theresa Quimby for selling the raffle tickets. A great time was held by all in attendance.

Basketball Free-Throw – Council Level

On Wednesday March 9th, our Council hosted all the 1st & 2nd place winners & their families for a meal @ our General Meeting. Thanks once again to Bro. Derek Renaud for chairing this annual event. Congratulations to all the participants & the winners. Thanks to all the people who helped Derek with the Council & also the District Free-throw which we also hosted back in February.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

On Thursday March 17th, our Council hosted our Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. Thanks to our Chairman Bro. Gary Gardin & his wife Penny, & Bro. Al O’Neil & his wife Carol. Thanks to the many helpers which were too many to list with out leaving anybody out. It was a great time held by all in attendance from the delicious Corn Beef & Cabbage, Irish Stew, to the excellent entertainment. With this function being a joint fundraiser for both our K of C & the McGregor Columbian Club, year after year it continues to be a great success. This would not be possible without the support not only from our volunteers, but also the support from our Members, other Councils, our Clubroom Customers, & the general Public.

Spaghetti Night

Thanks to Bro(s) Gary Gardin & Ron Hamelin for the help with the monthly Spaghetti Dinner. Our next Spaghetti Dinner will be held on the 3rd Friday of this month.

Car Raffle Tickets

Brothers, as we get closer to the Ontario State Convention next month in Toronto, we would like to put a push on for the Annual Raffle Tickets which in support of the Arthritis Society. Please see anyone of the executive, or the bartender in the Club Room bar. By selling these tickets, our Council also receives a % to put towards the many Charities that we donate to each and every month.

Squirettes Of  Mary

Congratulations to our Squirettes Of Mary on being honoured Circlette of the Year for the province of Ontario. Congratulations to all the Squirettes & their Councillors for all their hard work during the entire year.

In closing, have a great month, and PLEASE GET INVOLVED YOUR COUNCIL !!!

Fraternally Yours,

Chuck Roy

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

Dear Brother Knights,

Finally the second chicken broaster that had been laid up for repairs is back on line with a new motor and a rebuilt pump. This is a welcome event since the demand for chicken is big and getting bigger each week.  We have now added Sunday to our service days with hours of 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  We will be discussing additional advertising at this months Columbian Club meeting.  Also our fire suppression system has been updated to accommodate our new equipment.

Starting Sunday April 3rd we will begin serving breakfast made to order in our clubroom from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.  One Sunday during the month we will also offer a breakfast buffet along with made to order.  Pricing will be competitive.

The debit machine I talked about in my last report has been received and should be up and running by the time you read this report.  This should be a convenience for both our members and our clubroom customers.  A new dedicated phone line was installed for this purpose as well as a new computer line linking our clubroom to the office.  Thanks to brother Murray Kirzinger for providing the computer cable and help to run the new lines.

The St. Patrick’s Day Bash, the proceeds of which are split equally between the K.of C. and the Columbian Club, was a huge success again this year.  We served a record number of meals (391).  A BIG THANKYOU goes out to all the volunteers who made this event possible and especially brother Al O’Neil, my co-chair, who again made all those phone calls to personally invite everyone out for the event.  The bar staff outdid themselves to serve such a large crowd so efficiently.

Fraternally Yours,

Gary Gardin

Columbian Club President
