CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

We are in the Advent season!  You can tell.  The houses have the lights on outside.  Santa is everywhere.  The mall is filling up with shoppers.  Cold winds and winter is announcing another stage for our place on the planet.

In all of this – we church people prepare for another event.  Yes, we get involved with outdoor lights, preparing for an office party, and wondering if all the family will be together again this holiday season.  We church people get busy about all the events that the rest of the globe is bustling about.  However, in all of this flurry – hopefully we see a different light.  Hopefully we dance to a different tune then the partygoers.

A new light is about to be born among us.  The real world hungers for this light.  Those who only party, shop and decorate will miss the main event.  Those among us who still see the light must announce it to others.  The Lord is the Light.  He is the Reason for the Season.  Jesus is the center of all this commotion.  He is the One Who began the event.  It was His idea to be part of our world.  He has taken the first step.  We follow – at least those who still see the light of Christ among us.

God bless those among us who prepare for the birth of Christ in their home and families in a truly spiritual way.  Sure, God wants us to rejoice in his birth – but the real birth is within.  It’s not under a tree or in a present.  The real gift has already been given.

Help others to see Jesus reborn among us by your example, your faithfulness and your generosity.  Let the Lord take on new flesh within so that others my see the Light.

THE GIFT OF GIVING

The God of love is the original gift-giver.

A wonderful custom of gift-giving has always been closely connected with Christmas. This is rightly so because the feast of Christmas celebrates the extravagant and ultra "super-gift" that God first gave us—the total gift of God's very self!

At the Incarnation, God handed over to us not a brightly wrapped box of expensive jewelry, a bottle of rare wine or a gift certificate to a five-star restaurant—all of which are generous gifts. No, God gave us the total gift of himself in the form of Jesus Christ. Amazingly, in loving obedience to his all-loving Creator, the Divine Word volunteered his entire self to carry out God's saving mission on this earth.

We Knights volunteer to give of our self - like Christ - when we connect with our family, our loved ones, our brother Knights and our parish.  Sometimes, we have to volunteer our entire self - when we are asked to give more then we are able.  Sometimes we find our self going the extra mile to show our love and our faith.  This is the real work of the KC - bringing Christ to others - being Christ for others.

God bless our families during these holidays.  Allow Christ to be born among you.  Be a leader in your home and where you work.  Let our young people see that you are not afraid to give birth to Christ as a man, a father and a friend.

Be a lover - like Christ!

May the mystery of the Incarnation help us realize how wild and extravagant is the gift of God's infinite love for us! Have a joyous Christmas!

Merry Christmas to our Knights and their families.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Bill Kornacker

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers,

Christmas, “The most wonderful time of the year” I can see the Christmas spirit is alive & well in McGregor. I thank God for all of our catholic groups from the Knights, to the Ladies, and the Squires & Squirettes who have this spirit of caring & giving not only at Christmas but all through the year.

Anyone who has been in the main hall in the last couple weeks should have noticed that the Christmas decorations are up in the main hall and it looks great. A big thanks you to all the Squirettes & Councilors who did such a beautiful job.

Our annual awards banquet was held on Nov. 12 and I would like to thank our banquet chairman Brother Paul Sylvestre for all his hard work, I would also like to thank our MC for the evening Brother Gary Gardin who kept everyone entertained. If you haven’t already heard, join me in congratulating our Knight of the Year Brother Ron Hamelin.

November’s Spaghetti dinner was another great success but we just can’t get over the 100 mark. We had 100 people in attendance and I would like to thank the following people for their continued support in helping with this event. Brother Ulric Renuad & his wife Maryanne, Brother Gary Gardin, PGK Brother Chuck Roy, Brother Tom Renuad, & Brother Jay Barron.

A reminder that nominations for treasurer will be re-opened and elections held at our December general meeting. I must emphasize brothers that if you plan on attending the general dinner meetings, to please call the hall, so we can insure there is enough food for everyone in attendance.

Upcoming events for December include our members only Christmas Party on Dec. 3. Get your tickets early from any member of the executive or at the clubroom bar. Our party chairman, Gary Gardin, along with his wife Penny, have guaranteed some great entertainment. Come on out for some holiday cheer and spend the night with some of your Brother Knights. We also have our annual Appreciation night on Dec. 23 with ticket available at the clubroom bar.

In closing I would like to wish every member & their family the best for the holiday season. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Fraternally Yours

Dave Taylor

Grand Knight

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

Brothers,

In my November report I mentioned that we wanted to offer food events every Friday.  Well on November 4th we kicked off our Friday night specials with cabbage rolls and it was a rousing success.  We served 86 customers.  I actually had women that I know are good cooks, approaching me at the end of the evening, telling me that the rolls were as good if not better than they cook at home.  What a compliment to our cooks.  Thanks to Dale and Marcella Martin, our manager Sean, my wife Penny and most of all our cooks Janine and Janice for helping make the evening a success!

The fish fry the following Friday was also a pretty big night when we served 286 patrons.  People keep telling me that we have the best fish fry around.  The Squirettes were the hosts for the November fish fry’s and they did a terrific job.

The New Years Eve tickets have been going like hotcakes.  2 days after the annual banquet, the big hall was sold out and a substantial number of tickets were sold for the clubroom.  A big thanks to Kathy Lepain who sold 200 tickets on her own.  This party has all the makings of a blockbuster!!!!!!!
