CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers;

                As we begin the New Year we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family.  The Knights of Columbus in general and our own council in particular, is committed to promoting, encouraging and strengthening the Christian ideals of family life.

There is no question that in our time the Christian ideals of marriage and the family are under attack as we see the increase in divorce and separation, the attack against life in abortion and euthanasia and the growing evidence of child abuse and domestic violence.  These are very disturbing and frightening events and they are so common that they touch all our lives in one way or another.  The temptation is to throw all our hands up in frustration and proclaim that we cannot do anything about it.  But we can do something, in fact, many things.

                We must  be convinced in our minds of the importance of these Christian values and pray for the courage to live them.  The spirit of the world keeps hammering away at us to water down and weaken these values.  We must hold up these ideas and values to young people , by the examples of our lives.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Leo Lariviere

Chaplain

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers;

We truly hope that every Brother and their family had a great Holiday Season, and a very Happy New Year. Now that 2004 has arrived there are many functions happening @ our council.

Please keep our Recorder Bro. Paul Sylvester & his wife Angela in your prayers. Angela’s Mother Clara Drouillard passed away December 1st.

I would first like to apologize for not thanking & recognizing the St. Clements Choir for the wonderful music at our annual banquet. We  appreciate their efforts year after year and truly value their talent.

There were two (2) basket bingos in December. Thanks to Bro. Ron Hamelin & the Squires for their help in sponsoring the CWL Bingo & to Bro. Phil Lefrancois for his organization & expertise with K of C Basket Bingo. Thanks go out to Bro. Ulric Renaud for organization of the back counter work for the bingos and all the helpers from the many organizations that helped out. Many charitable organizations will benefit from these bingos, which is what it is all about.

We also had our K of C  Members Only Christmas Party on Saturday December 20th. All who attended can attest to a great time. Special thanks go out to our Manager Sue Deschamps and cooks Anita Beaulieu & Janine Bissonette for such a great meal. Thanks to PGK Gary Gardin and his wife Penny for chairing this event year after year. They always make it very special every year. Thank you also to Penny for her excellent job on all the favours for the ladies and the beautiful afghan for the raffle. Thanks also to Bernice Dufour for the lovely doll she made & donated to the party for the raffle. Without the continuing support we get from members like these, we could not continue to have functions like this one.

The Squirettes & the Squires also co-hosted their Annual Free Community Turkey Dinner. Once again as always it was a great success and congratulations to both the Squirettes & the Squires for coordinating such a great event and helping the community.

In January there will be many functions @ our hall starting with the Columbian Club Appreciation night which will be held on Friday January 16th. Tickets can be purchased in the Clubroom from the bartender. On Saturday December 17th, the St. Clement Euchre Tournament will be held @ our hall. Thanks to Bro. Fred Dufour & PGK Vic Renaud for chairing this annual event.

Fish Fry(s) this month will be sponsored by the Squires this month. We appreciate the ongoing involvement from all groups that help run the Fish Fry(s) month after month.

A few other functions that will be coming up are the Annual Beach Party. It will be held on Saturday February 28th. Tickets are $14.00 for choice of ½ Chicken or Steak. Please see anyone of our executive, our bartenders or our chairman DGK Dave Taylor, Bro. Jerry Drouillard or myself. Brothers, this is a fundraiser for the K of C to help us with the many charities we donate throughout the year. Please consider coming out, as your guaranteed to have a great time.

On Friday February 20th, we will be having our Annual Chicken & Slider Night. Tickets will be available for $ 8.00 from anyone of our executive or the Bartenders in the Clubroom. Thanks to PGK Gord Renaud & his helpers for once again for preparing his World Famous Sliders!

At the January General Membership Meeting, the meal will be Chicken and Sliders. Thanks to PGK Gord Renaud for preparing the Sliders for our General Meeting. Please come out and get all the info on what is happening in YOUR COUNCIL!

In closing have a great month & PLEASE GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COUNCIL!

Fraternally Yours,

Chuck Roy

Section 11  i) That a $.25 collection be taken and this amount given to the winning ticket holder at each General Meeting.

Section 19 That 10 copies of the bulletin be mailed or “emailed” to each member and deceased member’s widow.

I will have copies of the complete By-Laws as voted and passed for January 1, 2004 at the General meeting on January 14, 2004.

DISTRICT DEPUTIES REPORT

Dear Brothers;

                I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. It is time for us to get back to work again. The councils in the District are going to start concentrating on the free throw, poster contest, essay contest and the car raffle. The District Deputies received updates on all of these projects at our mid winter meeting so we can assist the councils in completing them. The councils will have to complete their level by the end of January so that I can judge the district level of the competition in February. The deadline for the Zone level is the end of February for all of the above. Please encourage the kids in the district to get involved with these worth while events. The poster contest may help them and their friends learn something about substance abuse. If their poster is picked by State, they may teach a lot of other kids about substance abuse. In the free throw contest they do not have to be a basketball star to shoot hoops. So if they get the chance to participate in the school or council level they maybe surprised what they can do. The car raffle tickets will take the entire brother knights working together to get the tickets sold. This is the main charity supported by State and we need to get behind this for it is a great cause. The Arthritis Society helps many people of all ages. At the mid winter meeting we met a young girl that would probably be bedridden if it was not for The Arthritis Society. The money we raise goes a long way in battling this terrible disease. So as you can see brothers we will have a busy couple of months ahead of us. I know that with all your great work this will get done with no problem and we will have fun doing it.

                I thanked the brothers at the councils that I visited early in December but for some of you that I may have missed. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all the brother knights that supported my family after the death of my father. Your support was greatly appreciated and was very comforting to all of us. It is this type of support that makes this organization great.

Fraternally

Gordon Edwards

District Deputy, District 88

COLUMBIAN CLUB

The Columbian Club Manager, Staff and Board members wish everyone a,

“Happy New Year”

THANK YOU

I wish to “Thank several members and patrons over the last month for building maintenance and property upgrades;

  • Thank you to Becky and the Squirettes for adorning the Clubroom and Main Hall with the Christmas decorations.
  • Thank you to “Gary Gardin” and “Leo Deschamp” for the new and improved Main hall’s bar.  The guys changed the counter top, removed one of two sinks, repositioned the appliance to make them user friendly, amended the plumbing and drainage AND fixed the old leaks. The counter area now houses actual storage drawers.
  • Thank you once again Brother “Bernard Ducharme” and “Joe Maisonville” for your continued integrity to maintain and repair the fencing that houses our picnic area and horseshoe pits along the rear property line.  Should any of our Squires hear rumors or know the responsible youths by name, we should would like to put a stop to the continuing damage.  The cameras are now monitoring the area – so beware!
  • Thank you “Tiny Bissonnette” for repairing the pot-holes on the front parking lot.

AND HEY,

  • What about that fancy refurbished sign on the front lot.  Thanks to Gary Gardin and Eli Bertrand for coordinating the repair upgrade.  The changes were necessary to keep the lettering displays from blowing away and to captivate your attention.  We almost don’t need the street lighting out front any longer - Sun glasses anyone?

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INSURANCE

  FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Your business belongs here

Do you know that the Knights of Columbus offers RRSP’s, RRIF’s, Annuities? Do you know enough about them to decide whether they or not they fit into your financial future?

I would like you to answer three questions:

                1. Are you like most people, interested in saving money?

                2. Do you find it difficult to save under common savings methods?

                3.Take the number of years you’ve been working times your average salary. What percentage of that income have you saved so far? How much will you save in the future?

If any of your answers causes you concern, I would like the opportunity to sit and talk with you about our alternatives - tax sheltered savings at highly competitve interst rates. You need not look anywhere but your own Order for your financial needs. Other institutions bombard you with ads for business at this time of year. We just keep doing what we’ve been doing since Father McGuivney founded the Order - taking care of our members and their families.

Call me today. I would like to hear from you!
