CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

St. Mathew tells us (5:13:14)”You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world.”  This call dear brother Knights, is not only for young people-the future church, but also to all of us to be the salt of the earth…to be the light of the world.

How much we appreciate light.  We enjoy the bright sunshine, especially, after we have had some dark, cloudy days.  How thankful we are to see the moon and stars shine brightly in the night sky when we go out at night.  We even notice that our plants always turn towards the light.

We read of the old lamplighters who went up and down the streets at dark lighting the street lamps.  They carried a light on a long pole to light the old gas lamps along the street.  The lamplighter himself couldn’t be seen, but as you looked down the street and saw the lights burning, you could see where he had been.

In the darkness of this world today we have the privilege of being a lamplighter for God.  We are just the carriers of His light, those through whom we can shine forth, We are called to be the light of the world.

A priest asked the children for a definition of a saint.  One girl eagerly raised her hand and said, “A saint is a person that the light shines through.”

“Let your light so shine before people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matt. 5:16, God is saying,”You are the light of the world.”

Yours in Christ

Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain
