CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

We are all aware of the necessity of prayer in our lives.  However, one method that is often neglected, is the practice of the presence of God.  It consists of simply reminding ourselves, frequently, during the day, that God is present with us everywhere and always.

We tend to make created things the center of our thoughts.  As a result we put God into the background of our daily lives.  Earthly interests prevent our thinking of God’s presence; therefore, we are in danger of giving God a secondary place in our lives.  The ideal situation is to let no activity obliterate the thought of God’s presence from our minds.  This certainly is difficult, but the difficulty involved should not deter us from trying.  The practice itself is simple and uncomplicated.  It consists of reminding ourselves frequently that we are not alone, in reminding ourselves that God is present beside us everywhere – no matter where we are, or what we are doing.  For those that do much traveling , or drive to and from work, or even at work or when alone, often this is less difficult than it appears.  The practice of the presence of God is an excellent form of prayer.  We become accustomed to the thought that God is with us.  We never feel lonely or alone if we think that He is there.  We feel helpless and unassisted in any difficulty.  We watch over the correctness  of our conduct better.  This practice of being conscious of the presence of God helps us to attain a life of closer union with God.

Our theology teaches us that God is everywhere by His essence and His activity.  He is also present in the Blessed Sacrament, with His body and His blood, His soul and divinity.  We must remind ourselves of His presence …and in doing so we are  making an act of faith.

Frequently then, during the day, we should remind ourselves of God’s presence.  The thought itself will deter us from doing wrong; it will encourage us to do much good that we might have left undone.  It will prompt us to speak to God more frequently and joyfully.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers,

Hopefully we will have better weather in the very near future. I am sure many are getting tired of the cold winter weather. On the bright side, we have many functions that will be happening around the hall over the next month.

I would first like to thank a few Brother Knights & their wives for the tremendous amount of help over the last month.

The monthly 4th Degree Dinner Meeting was held @ our Council on Thursday February 17th. Thanks to P.G.K Elie Bertrand & his wife Linda in the preparation of all the delicious food, and especially the Cabbage Rolls. Thanks also to D.K. Dave Taylor for his help in serving & the clean up after. It is always a pleasure to host our 4th Degree during the fraternal year.

Chicken & Slider Night was held on Friday February 18th. Thanks to Bro. Gord Renaud & his wife Judy, Bro. Tom Renaud & his wife Charlotte & our P.G.K. Bro. Elie Bertrand for their help in preparing all the sliders. Gord & his team also made them for the January General Meeting & the January Seniors Dinner / Dance. Thanks again to Gord & all his team. Thanks also to D.G.K. Dave Taylor who helped me serve along with the help of our cook Janine (Queen) Bissonette.

On Sunday February 20th, our Council hosted the Annual District “88” Free Throw Competition. Thanks to Bro. Derek Renaud for once again chairing this Annual Event. Thanks also to his many helpers. On Wednesday March 9th, @ our General Dinner Meeting, we will be honouring all of our winners from the Council level which took place in January. We will have the participants & their families & then present the winners with their trophies.

On Saturday February 26th, we held our Annual Beach Party. Thanks to D.G.K. Dave Taylor & his wife Debbie, Bro. Jerry Drouillard & his wife Becky & my wife Marla & Myself for chairing this Annual Event. This is always a great fundraiser for our Council. Thanks to the many Knights & their wives for all their help with this function. A job well done by everyone.

We have a few functions that are approaching very fast for the month of March.

Robert Jones Bowling – This year on Sunday March 6th, we will host G.K. Tony Longo, his wife Charlene & the Council Members from our Sister Council Robert Jones in Lincoln Park Michigan. This event, as every event that we participate in with Robert Jones is always a great time. Thanks to bro. Phil Lefrancois for once again organizing this annual function. The sign up list is on the bulletin board in the club room. Please call Phil @ 726-5777 if you have any questions or require any further information.

St. Patrick’s Days Celebration – This years celebration will take place once again on the actual day, Thursday March 17th @ our hall. Thanks to Bro. Al O’Neil & his wife Carol & Bro. Gary Gardin & his wife Penny for once again chairing this annual event. Tickets are on sale through anyone of our executive, or from the Clubroom Bartenders. As always as every year you will be treated to a fabulous meal of Corn Beef & Cabbage, or Stew. Gary & Al have the entertainment lined up, so get your tickets early!

And last but not least, on behalf of our executive & myself, we would like to wish each & every Brother & their family a very Happy & Joyous Easter Season.

In closing, have a great month & PLEASE GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COUNCIL!

Fraternally Yours,

Chuck Roy

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

Dear Brother Knights,

The chicken broasters I talked about in my last report have now been installed.  This installation caused a domino effect in our kitchen and several other changes had to be made in order to accommodate them.  Shelving had to be moved and reconfigured.  The well at the west end of our exhaust hood had to be removed and new tile installed.  Our big convection oven had to be moved, which necessitated gas piping and electrical changes.  One of our small fryers was moved to storage.  The fire suppression system has to be reconfigured and should be done this week.  While we were at it we installed some new upper cabinets along the west wall.  Thanks to brother Murray Kirzinger for his help with the installation.  We have changed our serving schedule slightly since the last report.  In addition to serving broasted chicken five days a week at lunch time from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. we will also offer take out or eat in from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  We will also offer it as a third entrée at our fish frys.  Sunday will probably be added at a later date.  We did a pricing study comparing Mealtime Express, Naples, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Colosanti’s.  Our pricing is very competitive.  So far we are off to a good start and chicken is flying out the door (no pun intended).  No additional staffing has been added to date although that remains a possibility in the future.

We are also in the process of adding a debit machine to our club room to further serve our members and customers at large.

Fraternally Yours,

Gary Gardin

Columbian Club President
