CHAPLAINS REPORT
Dear Brother Knight’s:
Prayer is an
essential part of Christian life. We
are taught that it is very powerful to help us meet our spiritual needs; and
this power comes from God’s promise attached to it…”Ask and it shall be given
you.”
God has given us
His word that He will hear our prayers.
He told us that if we ask anything in His name it will be given us. Since the power of prayer is interlocked
with the wisdom of God, we do not always receive what we ask for. Christ did not promise that we would; but
rather that no prayer of ours would be in vain. What was promised was that God would always hear our prayers and
if we pray well, He would always answer our prayers. However, the answer is not always “yes”, sometimes it is
“no”. When we ask for something which
is not good for us; and God is the best judge of what is good and what is bad
for us. Another consideration is that
the power of prayer is dependant upon the mercy and goodness of God. His mercy is greater than any of our needs. It could also happen and often does, that we
might ask for things which are harmful; then He will give us something good
instead.
The power is more
extensive than our needs could ever be.
Its power is as great as God’s compassion and mercy. Nothing is impossible to God. When we pray we ask for whatever is
reasonable and pleasing to God.
However, we must trust in God’s wisdom as well as His merger. A mother does not give her child a dangerous
weapon even when the child asks for it insistently.
Neither will God
give us what will injure us. This is
not an argument against the power of prayer, but rather a proof of God’s love
for us. As we all know, there are
limits to our ability to do things.
When our ability ends God’s power begins. Prayer is like a bridge that takes us from our inability to God’s
power.
In conclusion, it
might be said that he who neglects prayer is not only negligent but
foolish. He is neglecting something
that he needs most desperately. This
person is trying to do the impossible, do not turn your back on it.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Leo Lariviere
Brothers:
It is a very busy time of the year. This year’s beach party was one of the best
we’ve had. Co-Chairman Dave Taylor and
4th Degree Reg Major did an excellent job of organizing this
party. Many thanks goes to all of the
volunteers from the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of
Columbus who helped in any capacity on that night.
On March 3rd, we hosted our
annual 5 pin bowling with the Robert Jones Council. It was not championship bowling, but there were lots of laughs
and fun. After bowling, everyone came
to our hall for a super supper. Many
thanks to my wife Lynda for preparing the meal. Also, thanks to Janice Brockman for helping her with the
meatballs, and for setting up the hall.
On March 9th, the Colchester
North Firemen’s Association held their annual barbeque. It was organized successfully and attended
by many. The hall was very nicely
decorated for this occasion.
At our Dinner meeting, we invited the free
throw winners and their parents to join us.
The chairman of the free throw, Derek Renaud, presented trophies and
medals to the 1st and 2nd place winners. Derek with the help of his parents, Ulrick
and Mary Ann, did an excellent job of organizing this event. Not to forget, the helpers from the squires
who came to assist him.
On March 15th, chairman Chuck
Roy hosted our annual chicken and sliders night. We had about 134 people attend this excellent meal. As we were unable to estimate how many more
people we could serve, we turned people away at the door. This event definitely requires advanced
ticket sales. I would like to thank
Gord Renaud, Giselle and Frank Pigeon, and Eve Charrette for volunteering to
prepare the sliders. They were
delicious.
On March 17th, we held our
annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
Co-Chairmen Gary Gardin and Al O’Neil did a super job on this
event. Their effort was rewarded by the
huge crowd that attended the party.
Once again we were blessed to have good people volunteer to do whatever
it took to make the night a memorable one.
They sold tickets, decorated the hall, prepared the food, and did the
clean-up. Again many thanks to you all.
I did not mention the names of all of our
volunteers that helped out in the events that were held in March, as they are
numerous, and I would not want to forget anyone. We are blessed, and appreciate the plentiful number of volunteers
that show up to make all of our events an astounding success. I truly appreciate everyone’s constant
effort.
Finally, April is here and the nomination
for the executive positions for the Knights of Columbus will be opened. Anyone interested in nominating someone,
should attend this meeting. The
elections are going to take place in May.
In closing, I wish all of you a good and
happy Easter.
Fraternally,
Elie Bertrand
Grand Knight
