CHAPLAINS REPORT

Dear Brother Knight’s:

As we begin the New Year we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family.  The Knight’s of Columbus in general and our own council in particular is committed to promoting, encouraging and strengthening the Christian ideals of family life.

There is no question that in our time the Christian ideals of Marriage and the Family are under attack as we see the increase in divorce and separation, the attacks against life in abortion and euthanasia, and the growing evidence of child abuse and domestic violence.  These are very disturbing and frightening events and they are so common that they touch all our lives in one way or another.  The temptation is to throw up our hands in frustration and proclaim that we can’t do anything about it.  But we can do something, in fact many things.

We must be convinced in our own minds of the importance of these Christian values and pray for the courage to live them.  The spirit of the world keeps hammering away at us to water down and weaken these values.  We must hold up these ideals and values to young people, by the example of our lives.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Leo Lariviere

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers:

The year 2001 has ended and a New Year is to begin.  The month of December is a good way to end the year.  It’s a month of joy as we await Santa Claus and more importantly the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour.  The Santa Claus part may cause some stress as we try to spend more than we can afford, however, the birth of Jesus brings nothing but joy and peace to our hearts.  It is unfortunate that sometimes we can’t continue this good feeling through the following eleven months.

The K of C is a family and we try very hard to instill a sense of unity by providing events that will bring us together every month.  This month we are engaging in fish fries, spaghetti night, a euchre tournament, the St. Clement Steak Barbeque and the Super Bowl Sunday bash where we provide hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade chili.  Everyone is welcome, so bring your family and friends.  We encourage all Catholic non-members to join the Knights of Columbus family.

Every third Wednesday of the month our Senior Day Chairwoman, Rose Mary Meloche, and her helpers work hard at making a truly special day for the seniors of our community.  Please let her know that you appreciate all the effort they put in to this event.

I want to thank Jim Biggs for chairing the Members Only Christmas Party.  I’d also like to thank Gary, Penny and family for putting together a very entertaining game show.  The night was a great success thanks to the outstanding participation.

Congratulations go out to the Squirrettes, Squires and Councilors for a very successful Turkey Dinner.  A huge thanks to all who came out to work the event.  It was a job well done!

Have a safe and happy holiday.  I hope to find all members and their families in good health and spirit in the New Year.

Fraternally,

Elie Bertrand

Grand Knight

Debentures are now available for those wishing to invest in the McGregor Seniors Complex.  The terms will be the same as with the Knights of Columbus debentures.

McGREGOR SENIORS COMPLEX UPDATE

We have given them a tight schedule to get these units sold. We want 35 to 40 units sold by the first of March. So if you are interested or know of someone who is interested please let us know. We would like to have as many people as possible from our community to have a chance to purchase these units.

As of writing this letter I do not have a date for the public meeting, but watch for this date in our flyers or call one of the board members and we will be glad to give you any information. The sooner the units are sold, the sooner the contractor can start the construction.

The ball is now in your court; we can not go any further until the units are sold.

Sincerely

The McGregor Seniors Complex Board

“THE BIG MOVE”

First of all I would like to take this time to thank you all for your support in 2001.  It was a very busy year for me but I am looking forward to a very busy 2002!!  After much consideration I have decided to move my office to 601 Sandwich Street South in Amherstburg.  This decision was in part because My wife and I are expecting our 4th child so all the extra room in the house is a blessing, and also I w
