CHAPLAINS REPORT

Dear Brother Knight’s:

March is an interesting month.  It marks the official end of winter and the beginning of spring.  Sometimes however, that transition is difficult to determine.  March can be like a roaring lion or like a gentle lamb.  March can sometimes be a tumultuous month as Mother Nature gathers strength to burst forth from the confines of winter.  All creation groans for new life and new birth which very shortly will break forth for all to see.

Sometimes March is a battleground within nature, struggling to hang on to the darkness of winter and reluctant to welcome the hope of spring.

For us Christians, March is the middle of the Lenten Season.  It can be for us too a battle growing within our hearts as we struggle to let go the darkness of our own sin and welcome the healing and reconciliation with our God.

As we listen to the words of hope and challenge this Lenten Season let us resolve to allow the Spirit of the Living God to break through the darkness of our hearts and fill us with the new hope of Spring.  We know all to well how difficult it is for us to name our failure and sin before God, but our God is a God of hope and promise.  Our God is one who is always present to embrace us with the warmth of healing and peace and that is a peace the world cannot give.

Open your hearts to the God of Spring who will bring forth new life in you that you never imagined and what a beautiful gift and treasure that will be for all to see and celebrate.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Leo Lariviere

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers:

I would like to congratulate all the ladies of the Auxiliary who stood for the election and those who were chosen.  A big thank you to my helpers that night.  These include Brother Chris Bergeron who barbecued the steaks, Frank Van der Pryt, and Jim Biggs whom along with my wife Lynda assisted with everything else, including cleanup.

The month of March has a lot of activities to keep us busy.  Aside from the fish fries on the 8th, and 22nd, we will have a chicken and slider night on Friday the 15th.  Tickets are available in the club room.  Please purchase tickets in advance so that we will know how much food to prepare.

On March 17th, we are going to celebrate St. Paddy’s day.  This event is chaired by P.G.K. Gary Gardin and Al O’Neil.  They are planning a full day of entertainment and an excellent meal of corned beef, cabbage, and Irish Stew.  Please purchase your tickets in advance.

Do not forget our annual fish fry on Good Friday!!

At our March dinner meeting we are inviting our free throw winners to receive their medals.

On March 9th, the annual Colchester North Fire department is holding its steak barbeque.  Money is raised for many worthwhile projects, such as the Burn Unit.

On April 5th, Phil Lafrancois and Chis Bergeron are organizing a chili cook off.  This is a completely new endeavor for our council, and we would appreciate support from our members.  Please keep this event in mind.

Okay, here is an interesting question for all members.  What is the name of the youngest Pope who was eleven years old at the time?  I don’t know, so I am asking you.

In the meantime, do not feel guilty about eating chicken, because there are lots more of them in the world than there are people.  So eat lots.

Fraternally,

Elie Bertrand

Grand Knight

McGregor Seniors Complex Report

It has been very busy over the last couple of months getting the information out on the complex to everyone that might be interested and trying to answer their questions. There have been a lot of information packages handed out (over 600 copies) to people. But sales are very slow. We hope that people that might be interested start to put their deposits in to confirm their rooms soon. We have put the architect on hold for now because we cannot justify spending another $100 thousand till sales improve. We hope that people don’t wait till the building is built to make–up their mind. Because the building will not be built if we don’t have commitment. For people that are interested or are thinking about it please go and check–out other places to see how much it costs to live there. We have most of the prices on these other facilities so we know that are prices blow everyone else out of the water!

Remember this is a none profit company that will be building and running this complex so under the government rules we cannot make money on this venture, other than to do repairs. We did set the common fees high for the first year so that we didn’t cut ourself short because most of our costs are projected. After the first year, by law, we have to set the fees accordingly. If we charged too much in the first year we have to give the people living there a rebate.  This facility is not a nursing home it is a facility where seniors can enjoy their golden years with other people of their age and not be in a house by themselves watching TV all winter because the roads are too bad or how many times have you said,   “ Gee if we only had two more people we could play cards”. This facility will have different events for you to do, so that you will be able to enjoy yourself. If you need extra help
