CHAPLAINS REPORT
Brothers,
March
is an interesting month. It marks the
official end of winter and the beginning of spring. Sometimes however, that transition is difficult to determine. March can be like a roaring lion or like a
gentle lamb. March can sometimes be a
tumultuous month as Mother Nature
gathers strength to burst forth from the confines of winter. All creation groans for new life and new
birth which very shortly will break forth for all to see.
Sometimes March is a
battleground within nature, struggling to hang on to the darkness of winter and
reluctant to welcome the hope of spring.
For us Christians, March is the
middle of the Lenten Season. It can be
for us too a battle growing within our hearts as we struggle to let go the darkness
of our sin and welcome the healing and reconciliation with our God.
As we listen to the word of hope
and challenge this Lenten Season let us resolve to allow the spirit of the
Living God to break through the darkness of our hearts and fill us with the new
hope of Spring. We know all too well
how difficult it is for us to name our failure and sin before God but our God
is a God of hope and promise. Our God,
is one who is always present to embrace us with the warmth of healing and peace
and that is a peace the world cannot give.
Open your hearts to the God of
Spring who will bring forth new life in you that you never imagined and what a
beautiful gift and treasure that will be for all to see and celebrate.
Yours
in Christ,
Fr. Leo Lariviere

Brothers,
Finally
March has arrived and Spring is right around the corner. Hopefully it will be warmer than February.
I wish to thank Freddy Dufour who once again did a
wonderful job with the Euchre Tournament at our hall. We had an excellent turn out with 18 teams competing. Thanks also go to Sue Deschamps, Janice
Brockman, Russ Dalpee, the bartenders and anyone else who helped out that
day. The food was great and everyone
had a great time.
Thanks
to Gord Renaud and his helpers for hosting the Church BBQ. Four hundred people attended and more
tickets could have been sold. It was an
awesome success.
Thanks
to the BBQ guys for cooking such awesome steak and chicken for the Bowlers BBQ. We had 175 people attend the event.
March
starts off with Shrove Tuesday on the 4th. Our annual Pancake Supper will once again be hosted by the
Squires. Please come out and support
the event. Donations are accepted at
the door.
The
Colchester North Fireman’s Association is having their annual Steak BBQ on
March the 8th. This event
raises money for many of their worthwhile causes. Once again they need your support.
On
Saturday the 15th, the K of C Councils from all over the county will
be hosting a steak and chicken BBQ to raise money for the State Convention in
Toronto. Tickets will be limited per
council, so purchase them early.
This
year on March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, Gary Gardin and Al O’Neil
have an entertaining day planned.
Terrific food consisting of corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew will
be available. Tickets can be purchased
at the bar.
K
of C Bingos started again in February.
These are necessary to replenish our charity accounts so that we can
continue our contributions to the community.
If you are able to help, please contact me.
I
remember some time ago reading an article about a man and his wife going by a
group of men who were working hard side by side on some project. A flag was flapping in the wind that
identified them as Knights of Columbus.
The man turned to his wife and said “Who are these men they call Knights
of Columbus.”
Today
I often wonder “Where are these men they call Knights of Columbus.”
Fraternally,
Elie
Bertrand

Knight

DISTRICT
DEPUTIES REPORT
Dear Brothers,
It
is shaping up to be another busy month. Three of the four councils in District
Eighty Eight are preparing to have their annual banquets in the next four
weeks. Please support them by attending and enjoying the company of the
families of brother nights around the District. The district free throw was
held on February 2nd at Saint Thomas of Villa Nova. The competition
was stiff and everyone had a great time. I think that every kid that participated
is a winner. A special thanks to Brother Chuck Roy the Deputy Grand Knight of
McGregor council for once again supplying the subs for after the meet. He comes
through year after year and with this great donation. I think that if you are
passing a Subway Sub Shop at lunch think about stopping in and having one of
their tasty subs. Thanks to Council 9226 St. Mary’s in Maidstone for hosting
the district free throw this year, to all the brothers from this council and
the other councils in the district that showed up to help. Please do not forget
to get the winners to the Zone meet in Wallaceburg on March 1st at
Wallaceburg District High Secondary School. Registration and practice 12:00
noon till 12:45 P.M. competition at 1:00 P.M. sharp. Gym shoes must be worn and
make sure they have some credentials with them. Also in Wallaceburg will be the
Zone meeting on February 22nd all executives welcome, this is an
election meeting for the zone. The next District meeting will be held at Essex
Council on March 24th at 7:30 P.M. once again all council executives
should attend.
I
have been asked about the Forth Degree by some new knights in recently months.
You must be a third degree knight for a year before you can join the Fourth
Degree. This is the patriotic and most visible arm of the order. The color
guard is so impressive when it shows up at a council’s banquet or corporate
communion. This is the next great step in the journey of a knight. The
important thing to remember is that you should not neglect your third degree
duties if you join the Fourth Degree. The Fourth and Third are equally
important to the order. They both supply a valuable service to the order in our
quest to help the church, community and youth. I know of several knights that
balance positions in the third and the fourth and find each very rewarding. So
when you attend your third degree meeting, ask one of the Fourth Degree members
about the assembly they belong to. The Fourth Degree needs new members just the
way the Third Degree does. So please ask a Sir Knight about this degree.
