CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,
It was through Christianity that
womanhood was elevated from slavery of paganism to the position it now
holds. During the month of May, Mary’s
month, a day is set aside in order that we might give outward expression to
that respect. Although worldly elements
have crept in to commercialize the event, as it has in so many other cases, let
us as true Christians try to give the day and its observance a religious
emphasis.
The true Christian mother
deserves honour and respect since this is the greatest benefactor of her
children. She gave them life; she
devotes her life to them and their welfare.
Furthermore, the Christian mother is an influence for good in the
world. In all things she represents
what is good, noble and uplifting. In
her we see the model of true sacrifice.
It is through her example and her teaching through which she exerts
great influence – she is able to lead them to God.
In order then to pay great
honour to the wonderful creature of God, we set aside one day of the year –
Mother’s Day. However we should not
restrict ourselves to this day only. We
should love, respect and honour her throughout the year letting her conduct be
proof of our love.
Almighty God has been overly
generous to all of us by entrusting us to a second mother even as our Blessed
Lord was dying. He gave us His own
mother with the words “Son, behold thy mother”. Since Mary is in Heaven, and since she is the mother of God, she
is powerful before the throne of God.
Her least request will be granted – and she is our mother with all a
mother’s love and feeling for us.
Therefore we should pray frequently to Mary, not only to ask for a
favour, but also to honour her as we would our earthly mother. “Remember, oh most gracious Virgin Mary that
never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help
or sought your intercession was left unaided. {Memorare}
Thus on Mother’s Day especially
and during the entire year as well, we should honour our earthly mother, not
just in a material way but in a spiritual way also. Mary who is our spiritual mother is deserving of this
honour. Just to check on our conduct we
should ask ourselves frequently “Am I a good child – to both of my mothers?”
Yours in the
Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
Happy Easter,
Yours
in Christ,
Fr. Leo Lariviere
Brothers,
I hope everyone had a most
enjoyable Easter holiday. I must
congratulate Gary Gardin, Al O’Neil and all of their volunteers for making St.
Pat’s Day a grand event. The hall was
tastefully decorated, food was excellent, and the entertainment was super.
In April, we had 3 fish fries
which were very well attended, especially Good Friday with 447 people.
In May, we are starting with a
Smelt fry on the 2nd, and a Mother’s Day Breakfast on the 11th. Of course, on the 14th we will
have our General Membership Meeting.
It’s our Knights of Columbus Executives Election Night and also,
nominations will be opened for the executive positions on our Columbian Club. The meal is barbequed steak. If you are going to attend, and I hope to
see a good turnout, please call the hall ahead to let us know so that we will
have enough food for everyone.
On the weekend of the 16th,
17th, 18th, & 19th of May, is the K of C
convention in Toronto. The next weekend
I’m leaving for 5 or 6 days to do some fishing and get some rest.
Thought
of the month:
A mind that
is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimension.

DISTRICT
DEPUTIES REPORT
Dear
Brothers,
The Easter season brings with it
many different hopes and wishes. For the kids it’s the candy that the Easter
Bunny brings. For the families it’s a chance for us all to get together and
visit before the summer vacation time. For us as Catholic it the time we
reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He fulfills his promise
of returning to heaven and dies on the cross for our sins. He relies on the
apostles and his followers to spread his good word and to help the church to
grow. The knights are an instrument in that growth. The good work that we do in
the community and for our churches helps spread the word that we follow his
teachings. This work helps bring hope to the hopeless, food to the hungry, joy
to the troubled and funds research to help the sick. Why would any catholic man
not want to be a knight? So as our fraternal year draws to an end we must
continue to strive to grow and carry on this great work.
The weather is finally warming
and I hope spring is here. April showers bring May flowers and April
nominations brings May elections. If you have been nominated for a position you
should feel proud that your brother knights believe that you can contribute to
the leadership of the council. I would like to take this opportunity to
congratulate all the nominees. I hope that you will consider standing for the
position that you have been nominated for. It is important that we maintain
strong leadership in the councils to keep them viable and growing. To all the
members of the councils please try to get out to the May meeting and exercise
your right to vote. By the membership getting out voting it shows that they
support the council and its executives. So I hope to see all of you out at your
May meeting.
Do not forget to get your
foursomes together for the District 88 Golf Tournament at Belleveiw Golf Course
June 8th 1:30 P.M. shot gun start 9 hole executive course. Dinner to
follow at Holy Name of Jesus Church hall. Cost $30.00 if you need a cart please
let us know well in advance so it can be reserved for you. See your council
representative to get your foursome registered.

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT
Brothers:
SPECIAL EVENTS
Spring
has sprung! Did you “spring your clocks ahead one hour” ? I would hate to see you late for the Smelt
Fry on Friday May 2nd, Mother’s day breakfast Sunday May 11th
and of course, our Friday Fish Frys (dates below).
CHANGING FACES
Welcome Lorrie! The Columbian Club would like to introduce
our newest bartender, Lorrie Peer.
Some members may recognize Lorrie from her prior employment at local
several McGregor areas Golf Courses.
Lorrie says that she is used to hearing your bragging about those “special golf shots” at the Clubhouse’s
nineteenth hole. The Board thought that we should keep Lorrie around our
Columbian Club just to keep your stories straight. We fellow members would hate to realize that your golfing
experiences have become exaggerated during the short drive between the Golf
Course and our Clubroom.
FISH FRYS
The
Columbian Club Board is taking some initiative and making what may appear to be
drastic changes to improve any Knights of Columbus sponsored food events that
take place in our main Hall Room.
·
NO SMOKING POLICY: During the April Fish
Frys, the Board affected a “No Smoking” campaign inside the MAIN HALL. We apologize for offending any members and
patrons that continue as smokers but we encouraged that you ‘please’ restrict
your smoking to inside the Clubroom only and not at any Hall Events. The no smoking policy is presently limited
to Knights of Columbus events. Any hall
rentals agreements made with private organizations may permit smoking at their discretion and subject to notifying our Manager at the time of rental.
·
TAKE-OUT FOOD ORDERS: Patrons attending our
Fish Fry events ‘know’ that we have always experienced long service delays. Our kitchen staff is stretched to their
limits in maintaining a steadfast ‘fresh cooked’ fish that does not become
fragile nor greasy by prompt or prolonged cooking. To reduce the line-up time, staff is implementing extra ‘fry
cookers’. However, we are experiencing
that some “take-out orders” are being placed at the bar area as a means of
making ‘short-cut’. The Board requests
that any purchased “take-out orders” NOT be eaten in the Clubroom. Patrons seen to be abusing the take-out
service will be requested to relocate their meal into the Hall and to have
their food ‘plated’. Should we
experience continuing problems, the “take-out service” will be reassigned and
handled by the Hall people serving the in-house line-up. In other words, Line-up like the rest of
us!
