CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers;

Traditionally and from time immemorial, November has been looked on as the “Month of the Holy Souls” in Church liturgies and devotions.

                It was-and is-a time for remembering deceased members of one’s family and friends and neighbours who had gone before us into the Hereafter.  It was a time for extra prayers and Masses “for the repose of their souls.”  It was a time for visiting cemeteries, for laying wreaths and flowers on graves, for a fresh surge of grief and mourning.

                Yet it was – and is – much more.

                November is a special time for renewing our faith in two great Christian beliefs:  the resurrection of the dead and the Communion of Saints.

                The doctrine of the communion of saints views the entire Church, heavenly and earthly, as a fellowship of persons legally joined to form a body or corporation in other words, a company.  Or more precisely, a “Co-op” whose assets are shares in the blessings of eternal salvation.

                All can help each other in this “co-op” and are pledged to do so.  I received unity not from any codified set of bylaws, but from its fellowship with Christ.  In fact, it is the “body of Christ,” and He acts through it.

                November should, more properly, be a month of joy rather than sorrow.  It can serve to make us more aware of what is involved in all this fellowship with Christ, of the abiding closeness of the heavenly Church and the pilgrim Church on earth.

                Consoling thoughts these.  But spare a thought too for all those who have not been joined to that eternal “co-op”.

                Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Leo Lariviere

Chaplain

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers;

               We truly hope that every brother and their families had a safe & Happy Thanksgiving Holiday! October was a very busy month and as we get closer to the holiday season, it will be much busier.

Please keep our Recorder Brother Paul Sylvester & his family in your prayers on the recent passing of Paul’s mother on October 18th.

The Columbian Squires held their thanksgiving basket bingo on October 5th. I had the privilege of working with all the squires at the bingo. They were very professional and did an outstanding job.

On October 18th, we hosted a Steak BBQ fundraiser for St. Ursula School for their year end trip to Quebec. We served just under 300 people. Thank you to all the volunteers that help put this function on, especially all the help the day before and the day of the function. Dale & Marcella Martin, Dave & Debbie Taylor, Jerry & Becky Drouillard, and Kevin Langlois. Thanks to our Barbeque Brothers Chris Bergeron & Murray Kirzinger and our bartenders Cory Drouillard, Crazy Bob, my wife Marla. And last but not least Janice Brockman & our Hall Manager Sue Deschamp for their help. With everyone’s commitment & hard work, we had a very successful fundraiser for the Grade 8 students of St. Ursula.

On October 19, the Knights cooked breakfast for the CWL Mother / Daughter breakfast. A job well done. Thanks to all the brothers who help prepare all the food. Gord Renaud, Dave Taylor, Chris Bergeron, Russ Dalpee, Dale Martin, Frank Pigeon, Hector Lucier & myself. Special thanks to Councilor Debbie Taylor & the Squirettes of Mary for their assistance in helping setting up that hall, running the food out & cleaning the tables. Thanks for a Great Job!

The Spaghetti Dinners are held the 3rd Friday of every month in the clubroom. Please come out and enjoy a great value. You get Spaghetti, Salad, Garlic Bread & coffee for only $ 4.00 per person. The Spaghetti Dinners are one of the many fundraisers that we do on a regular basis. Please come out and support our efforts & enjoy this great meal. Thanks to our volunteer workers Linda Bertrand, Marcella Martin & Kevin Langlois.

This Month’s Fish Fry(s) for November are sponsored by the Squirettes Of Mary. They are on the 2nd & 4th Friday of every month.

Our Membership drive is going very well. We have quite a number of Catholic Gentlemen who will be going through their degrees very shortly. We are doing very well & I feel that we will not only meet our membership quota this year, we will probably exceed our quota. Along with our membership quota, we must also meet our Insurance quota. If you have not taken advantage of the many fraternal benefits that are available to you as a member, please give our Insurance Agent Bro. Jeremie Bornais a call. There are many wonderful products that the Knights of Columbus has to offer. If any Brother would like to sponsor a Catholic Gentlemen, please get in touch with Bro. Jim Biggs or myself.

Our 62nd Annual Banquet is fast approaching. For any last minute tickets, please contact our Chairman Bro. Paul Sylvester @ 726-6357. Tickets will not be sold at the door, as they are on a 1st come reserved basis.

The Squires will be holding their Annual Toy Bingo on Sunday November 30th. Please come out & support the Squires, as this is one of their biggest fundraiser events of the year.

And last but not least a reminder to all Past Grand Knights of our Council. The annual bylaw meeting will be held @ our hall on Monday November 17th@ 7:00 PM. All PGK’s are welcome as always. An assortment of Sandwiches & refreshments will be served following the meeting.

In closing, have a great month and Brothers please get involved in your Council!

Fraternally Yours,

Chuck Roy

Grand Knight

DISTRICT DEPUTIES REPORT

Dear Brothers;

                The October blitz has proven to be a great membership tool for most of the councils I have talked with. They have had teams at the masses and handed out prospect cards to many potential members. The follow up with information meetings and open houses at the councils will prove to be the icing on the cake. Once we can talk one on one with these potential members I am sure that we can sway many of them into joining our ranks. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of new members to our councils. We need new blood to help us continue to move forward with our wonderful charity work. They cannot only bring relief to the work load at fundraisers but new ideas as well. We need to get them involved as soon as we can. Make them feel that they are truly apart of something great. This is something that the active brothers already know. The membership drive does not stop here with the blitz in October it is a year round endeavour. The membership must continue to follow up on the prospects that they have met in the membership drive. They must also continue to look for those men who may have been missed by the blitz. If you have helped the membership directors at the masses and at the information follow up meeting it does not stop there. You must not leave it all up to the chairmen, after all they can not be expected to do it all themselves. Let the membership director know that you can continue to help follow up on a couple of prospects. Pick someone you may know and talk with them. Close the deal so to speak. Remember we have the state membership chairman here in District 88 lets make him proud of us.

                I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce my District Warden Brother Ron Ducharme of Essex council. He volunteered to take on this role for me this year and help with the District 88 business. He has been traveling to all the councils in the district with me to get to know all of you. I thought I would announce it in the newsletters as well so those of you who may not have missed us at your meeting. I am looking forward to working with Brother Ron for the balance of this term. He will be of great help in the district. We will let you know what we can do in the way of degrees once all the new members have been signed up and we can get the total numbers from each council.

Fraternally

Gordon Edwards

District Deputy, District 88
