CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,
The month of November is of particular significance
for our Church and our faith community because of two very important facts that
are celebrated on November 1st and November 2nd. On these days
the Church celebrates all those who have gone to glory and are honoured
by the Church officially as Saints and all those who have not been officially
declared as Saints but have been called
home by God.
These are two of my favorite days in the Church calendar
because they call to mind all the members of our families who have gone before
us. The Communion of Saints is one of
the most comforting articles of our faith because it reminds us that there is
an unbreakable bond between those who are here on earth, those who have been
called to our final home and those who are yet to be born.
I find the month of November a very special time to
recall and share the stories of so many members of my family and friends who
have touched my life in a special way. I
especially remember my mom and dad, my two brothers and sister and countless
others who have been faithful examples of goodness and love and who have loved
me into life.
I would encourage everyone to take some time this
month to not only pray for those who have gone before us, but also to take a
little time to share some special stories of these special people who have
touched their lives. It is also a
special time to remember all those who have served in the Canadian forces over
the years and who have given their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms of
life which are a special gift to us all.
Yours in Christ
Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain

Brothers,
We the executive of our council truly hope that each and every brother
& their families enjoyed a very Happy Thanksgiving
As the year gets closer to the Christmas Holidays, there are many
activities and functions that will be upon us.
I would first like to recognize a bunch of people for their continuing
hard work around our council. On Friday October 15th, we held our
monthly Spaghetti Dinner in the clubroom. Thanks to PGK Gary Gardin, DGK Dave
Taylor, my wife Marla & Daughter Shantal for all their help.
On October 17, the Knights pulled together & cooked for the CWL
Annual Mother / Daughter breakfast. Thanks to the following people for their
hard work. Our team leader PGK Gord Renaud, PGK Gary Gardin, DGK Dave Taylor,
Bro. Paul Sylvester, Bro. Frank Pigeon, Bro. Murray Kirzinger & also the
tremendous help from the Squirettes Of Mary for clearing all the tables, &
setting up. It was a very smooth breakfast, thanks to all the great help.
On October 21st, our council hosted the Father Loue Boue Assembly
monthly dinner meeting. Thanks to PGK Gord Renaud, his wife Judy and DGK Dave
Taylor for cooking & serving such a wonderful meal.
On October 30th, we held the Annual Steak Barbeque for St.
Ursule School here in McGregor. Thanks to the following volunteers for the help
on another very successful barbeque. Thanks to Bro. Dave & Debbie Taylor,
Marcella Martin, PGK Gary & Penny Gardin, Bro. Jim Biggs, Bro.Tom &
Charlette Renaud, PGK Gord Renaud, and my wife Marla. Thanks also to our
Barbeque guys Bro. Chris Bergeron & Bro. Kirk Lavergne. This barbeque could
not be as successful as it is without the help of all our volunteers and I
cannot forget to mention the Parents Committee for selling all the tickets.
The following are a few reminders of the upcoming events @ our council
for the month of November and beyond.
Fish Fry’s this month are sponsored by the Squirettes Of Mary. They will be held

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

The fish fry
for October 8th drew 302 hungry people. Our customers continue to tell us that of all
the fish frys in the surrounding area, ours is the best. This is a tribute to our cooks, our manager
and the various volunteer groups who host these events. Thanks to one and all. The good news continues with the fact that
our lunch-time business is growing. The
word is spreading fast that the K.of C. is the place to be! If you haven’t already tried our daily
lunches, do yourself a favour and discover how affordable and tasty they can
be.

DEPUTIES REPORT

Dear Brother Knights,
As
the weather starts to get colder we tend to gravitate to more indoor
activities, and what better one than your council meeting. Go with a brother
knight or if you already attend your meetings regularly then bring a brother
knight you know who does not. Take the opportunity to get out to your council
meeting and support the Grand Knights and his executive. A Grand Knight always
appreciates a room full of members at his meeting. I know I do when I visit
your councils. Once you get into the habit of attending you will be surprised
how much you may look forward to it each month.
The councils are always looking for
new ideas for activities and you may have a great one. Council programs not
only bring the council to the forefront in the community but bring our brothers
closer together. These programs are often hard work but most of the time we
have a lot of fun working them. Councils with lots of active programs keep the
members busy and involved. This is the kind of thing that a new member will
want to join your council for. History has proven that active councils not only
recruit more members but have a higher retention rate. At the time of writing
this article it is too early to report on the results of the October membership
drive. I know that we can once again bring in a record number of members into
the District Councils. We need to follow up on all our leads gathered from the
blitz and get the candidates to a degree. The new members need to get active
right away.
In
November we remember our fallen veterans. At the same time lets all remember
our deceased members many of whom contributed countless hours to all of our
councils.
Fraternally Yours,
Gordon Edwards
