CHAPLAINS REPORT

If you were asked what meant most to you in life, after God, your faith, your church - what influence for good has been most powerful in your life - what would your answer be?  I am sure your answer would be: a good mother or an exemplary father, who by their personal example taught you to reverence God, for that is the basis of religion; to reverence neighbours, for that is the basis of charity; to reverence legitimate authority, for that is the basis of patriotism; to reverence yourself, for that is the basis of purity.

A mother and father who created a home wherein the above mentioned virtues were held up by them as shining ideals cannot but be blessed by their children and rewarded by God in their life and in heaven.

All people are idealists and hero-worshippers; those ideals and heroes often shift with the seasons of the year and they always shift the years but we must have a hero and ideal.  Little boys are the greatest heroes.  Once a five year old boy was being put to bed by his father – he knelt down by his bed, joined his hands, raised his eyes to heaven and prayed:

Now I lay me down to sleep,

                                I pray the Lord my soul to keep;

And if I die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

That was his usual prayer - this evening he looked at his dad, then looked up to heaven again and prayed, “Dear God make me a great big, good man like my daddy.  Amen.”  In a few minutes he was asleep - and then, his father knelt beside his sons bedside and prayed; “Dear Lord, make me a great big, good man, like my son thinks I am.”

Parents who desire to bring up their children well must first set themselves to lead a “God fearing life.”  Children have the tendency to imitation which is so strong an element in human nature the example of their parents, to whom they look up, is continually before their eyes.  If there is nothing in the conduct of parents contrary to the laws of God, if they live in harmony together, laboriously and self sacrificing.  If they are restrained in speech, patient and suffering, zealous in prayer and in the service of God and full of trust in Him, they become holy examples to their children.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Leo Lariviere

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers:

Summer has gone and Fall is upon us.  On October 6th we will have a Corporate Communion with the Mass dedicated to Father Michael McGivney.  A breakfast at the Knights of Columbus Hall will follow along with the Installation of Officers.

Monday, October 14th is Thanksgiving.  Let us once again take this opportunity to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.

Sunday, October 20th is the Catholic Women’s League annual breakfast at our hall.

The Robert Jones Council form the U.S.A. has invited us to their Square Dancing fun day on Sunday, October 27th.  The price of the tickets is unknown at this time.  There will be list for people to sign at the Club Room entrance.

Our Annual Banquet is November 9th.  All Past Grand Knights and Widows are urged to call Paul Sylvestre (726-6357) for their tickets.

Finally - on behalf of the Knights of Columbus Executives, my wife and I, we wish you and your families a happy Thanksgiving.

“While faith makes all things possible, it is love that makes all things easy.”
