CHAPLAINS REPORT
Brothers,
All
of us have made a decision to belong to God and then we get busy, we get
distracted. We receive opportunities to
say “Yes” again and again, but, often times, we lose them. In our distraction and in our fatigue and with
temptation all around us, we wander away from opportunities for growth in the
life of Christ. There is really a need
for us to understand that acceptance of God’s will is not only a once and for
all conversion experience to be looked back on fondly; it is also an ongoing
experience, a lifestyle.
It is to be able to say each
day among all the stresses and pleasures too “Yes Lord”, “Your will, not mine,
be done. It is to be able to say, “Lord
forgive me and come to my life, help me to be one with you and others.”
Having made that commitment to God, we can be
absolutely certain that He will guide us and lead us step by step into His new
life, if we let Him. May we be open to
receive God’s grace as an ongoing, continuing, everyday experience through
which our insight to life’s meaning and purpose is deepened and enriched.
Reflect on your commitment to God, Jesus, Church,
family, work and service organizations.
Yours in Christ
Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

I had only
held the office of president for a few weeks when a calamity struck our
hall. On August 2, the hall was struck
by lightning. I hope this is not a bad
omen! A big thank you goes out to Mike Quimby who was Johnny on the spot with the fire
department. A big thank you also goes
out to John Graham of Graham Electric who got out of bed at 3 in the morning to come to the hall to
take care of the emergency. He had a new
transformer expedited from
Attendance at
fish frys has been
outstanding with 327 on August 13th and 268 on September 10th. We have instituted a new system whereby
people are assigned numbers when they purchase their meal and they then sit rather than stand while waiting for their
meal. We have had many compliments
especially from those with bad knees or hips who are
grateful that they do not have to stand in line. For those of you who think that it takes
longer to be served under the new system, just remember that whether you sit or
stand it does not make the fish cook any faster! We probably should have done this years ago.
Fraternally Yours,
Gary Gardin

DISTRICT
DEPUTIES REPORT

Dear Brother Knights,
The
October blitz has proven to be a great membership tool for most of the councils
I have talked with over the past year. They have had teams at the masses and
handed out prospect cards to many potential members. The follow up with
information meetings and open houses at the councils have proven to be the
icing on the cake. Once we can talk one on one with these potential members I
am sure that we can sway many of them into joining our ranks. I can not
emphasize enough the importance of new members to our councils. We need new
blood to help us continue to move forward with our wonderful charity work. They
can not only bring relief to the work load at fund raisers but new ideas as
well. We need to get them involved as soon as we can. Make them feel that they
are truly apart of something great. This is something that the active brothers
already know. The membership drive does not stop here with the blitz in October
it is a year round endeavour. The membership must continue to follow up on the
prospects that they have meet in the membership drive. They must also continue
to look for those men who may have been missed by the blitz. If you have helped
the membership directors at the masses and at the information follow up meeting
it does not stop there. You must not leave it all up to the chairmen, after all
they can not be expected to do it all themselves. Let the membership director
know that you can continue to help follow up on a couple of prospects. Pick someone
you may know and talk with them. Close the deal so to speak.
The
Icon will be in District 88 from Oct. 11th till Oct. 31st.
If your council is doing something with the Icon at church get involved with
the service. It is a great way to show the parish how the Knights are involved
in the church. It is nice that the Knights have this available to us to help
bring our brothers together in prayer.
Fraternally Yours,
Gordon Edwards
