CHAPLAINS REPORT
Faith in God is
the foundation of a Christian life.
Hope is the remedy for gloom and despair in this life. Charity gives warmth and vitality to
Christian living. St. Paul called
Charity the greatest of the virtues.
Charity includes more
than throwing a coin into the Poor Box.
This is only one manifestation of what could be Charity. We must not confuse generosity with the
virtue of Charity. Charity, first of
all, means loving God for His own sake.
God is perfectly lovable. He is most
perfect and all good. There can be no
doubt in our minds of the great love which He has for us. So great was it that He sent His Son in
order that those who believe in Him might not perish. His love for us demands a
return of love from us.
It is not
necessary that we feel this love of God emotionally. Love of God means a preference of God to all others. It means taking God and His law as our
standard of conduct. All this we can do
without external feeling or emotion.
Charity means loving our neighbour for God’s sake. Faults and defects may make people unlovable
in themselves. It may be difficult to
love some people for their own sake.
God asks that we love them, not for their own sake, but for His sake.
Love of neighbour
does not mean making intimate friends of all others. It does mean treating all in a civil charitable manner. It includes accepting people as they are
with all their weaknesses. It includes
an honest attempt to live at peace with others.
If everyone was
charitable what a different world this would be. Since the greater number of our troubles arise from
uncharitableness, then if we were kind, forgiving and understanding most of the
problems of life would disappear. If
there was charity among nations, there would be no wars; if individuals
practiced the virtue there would be no anger, hurt feelings or broken
hearts. Life on earth would be more
like that promised in the world to come.
As individuals, we cannot change the world; but as individuals, we can do much to change the little circle of the world in which we move, live, and work. We can do it by being charitable, kind, helpful, merciful and understanding. Love God for His own sake and love your neighbout for God’s sake.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Leo Lariviere

Brothers:
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable
summer and are ready to participate in this year’s activities.

Already we have begun this year’s events by
agreeing to participate in the World Youth Day weekend. The Church Committee (Carolin Arnett, Annett
Barron and Gisele Pidgeon) asked the Knights of Columbus to provide all the
food and drinks necessary for the Pilgrims’ stay in our village. I want to thank the following who contributed
in accomplishing this task:
Ø
The Squires who volunteered to work the Spaghetti
Night on Friday for a job well done.
Ø
The Catholic Women’s League who made the sandwiches
for the Pilgrims’ daily outings.
Ø
Pete Petrimoulx, Chairman Don Meloche, Murray Kirzinger,
Dave Taylor, Henry Labrecque, Jim Biggs, Phil, Shelley and Justin Lafrancois,
Kevin Langlois, Russ Dalpee, Gary Gardin, Chuck Roy, Kris Bergeron and Deirdre
and Frank Van der Pryt for doing an outstanding job at the Annual Church
Picnic.
Ø
Sue Deschamps for handling the pricing and purchasing
as well as preparing the menus for the meals.
Ø
The staff for making the Pilgrims feel welcomed at our
hall.
Ø
Deputy Grand Knight Chuck Roy for providing a Subway
meal to the Pilgrims and councilors on their Friday outing to Point Pelee.
Ø
The Squirettes who ran the face painting and games at
the Church Picnic.
Ø
All those that helped out at the Sunday night chicken
supper. It was a huge success was
greatly enjoyed by our visitors.
Ø
Pete, Henry and Don who were the Chairmen and
Coordinators. You did a great job and
made the St. Clement Council shine.
I hope I didn’t leave anyone out, but if I
did, please know that your contribution was greatly appreciated.
On August 18th, the annual
Senior Complex BBQ will have taken place and I know it will be a great success
as always.
September 11th marks the
beginning of our dinner meetings. I
hope to see everyone there and in good health.
The St. Clement Council will be hosting the
annual baseball tournament with the Robert Jones Council on September 21st. It will be held at Co-An Park and I hope to
see many K of C members show up for this great event. There’s a name list on the bulletin board in our Club Room
entrance. Please sign it to give us an
indication of how much food to prepare.
It’s absolutely free, so come and have a wonderful day at the park.
September 28th marks the Father
Louis Boue Assembly hosting a 4th Degree Exemplification. St. Clement Council has many brothers who
will be joining the 4th Degree on that day and I am looking forward
to that weekend.
