CHAPLAINS REPORT
Faith in God is
the foundation of a Christian life.
Hope is the remedy for gloom and despair in this life. Charity gives warmth and vitality to
Christian living. St. Paul called
Charity the greatest of the virtues.
Charity includes more
than throwing a coin into the Poor Box.
This is only one manifestation of what could be Charity. We must not confuse generosity with the
virtue of Charity. Charity, first of
all, means loving God for His own sake.
God is perfectly lovable. He is most
perfect and all good. There can be no
doubt in our minds of the great love which He has for us. So great was it that He sent His Son in
order that those who believe in Him might not perish. His love for us demands a
return of love from us.
It is not
necessary that we feel this love of God emotionally. Love of God means a preference of God to all others. It means taking God and His law as our
standard of conduct. All this we can do
without external feeling or emotion.
Charity means loving our neighbour for God’s sake. Faults and defects may make people unlovable
in themselves. It may be difficult to
love some people for their own sake.
God asks that we love them, not for their own sake, but for His sake.
Love of neighbour
does not mean making intimate friends of all others. It does mean treating all in a civil charitable manner. It includes accepting people as they are
with all their weaknesses. It includes
an honest attempt to live at peace with others.
If everyone was
charitable what a different world this would be. Since the greater number of our troubles arise from
uncharitableness, then if we were kind, forgiving and understanding most of the
problems of life would disappear. If
there was charity among nations, there would be no wars; if individuals
practiced the virtue there would be no anger, hurt feelings or broken
hearts. Life on earth would be more
like that promised in the world to come.
As individuals, we cannot change the world; but as individuals, we can do much to change the little circle of the world in which we move, live, and work. We can do it by being charitable, kind, helpful, merciful and understanding. Love God for His own sake and love your neighbout for God’s sake.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Leo Lariviere

Brothers;
Well I truly hope that every
Brother and his family had a very safe & happy summer. Now that we are in
September, we are going to be very busy with upcoming events.
First of all I would like to
thank my DGK Dave Taylor for taking on the organization of getting a baseball
team together for our Annual International Baseball tournament & fun day.
Although we got our butt’s kicked in the competitive game, we did win the fun
game. At the end of the day, it was all fun. This year we went over to Robert
Jones Council in Lincoln Park Michigan. They always show our council a great
time when they host this event.
Many thanks to brother Dave
Taylor & his wife Debbie for pitch hitting for Marla & I as we were at
a business conference and unable to make it. Thanks to Brother Phil and his
expertise in organizing the bus transportation to ensure everyone got there and
back safely. It was a good time for everyone that attended.
On July 20th, the
McGregor Seniors Complex held there annual Steak Barbeque at Co-An Park. This
event was very well attended judging by the weather & that the event was
held at the Park unlike other years at our hall. Many thanks to all the K of C
brothers and their wives for the tremendous amount of help for the entire day
and days leading up to the event.
On September 7th we
will hold a memorial mass @the 10:00am mass for Father Michael McGivney @ St.
Clements Parish. We will then have a breakfast at the hall, following the
breakfast we will have the Installation Of Officers for our new Executive for
2003/2004. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Just a reminder that on Friday
September 19th, we will be starting up the Spaghetti Dinners once
again in the Club Room. Please come out and support our efforts to raise money
for the many projects we work on.
Another reminder is that our
bingos are in full swing. Thanks to Ulric Renaud & his wife Mary-Ann for
their continued hard work. A very large part of our work that we do every month
with many charities could not be accomplished without our bingos. Please
volunteer your time to work a bingo if possible when you are called upon. If
you would like to volunteer your time to work for one of our bingos, please
call Mary-Ann Renaud @ 736-2724
We will be starting up our
monthly dinner meetings on Wednesday the 10th of September @ 6:30PM.
The meal will be Cabbage Rolls & Perogies. Many thanks to the Ladies of the
McGregorettes who always prepare such a delicious meal for us Knights. We hope
to see many out for our monthly general dinner meeting.
Please mark your calendar and
plan on attending our general meeting to find out all the great things that
happen month after month in our great Council!
In closing, on behalf of
myself, and your 2003/2004 executive please have a safe and happy month.
Fraternally Yours,
Chuck Roy
