CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

There is a beautiful passage taken from Mathew 5:13-14 “You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world.”  This call dear brother Knights is not only for young people – the future Church, but also to all of us to be the salt of the earth…to be the light of the world.

How much we appreciate light.  We enjoy the bright sunshine, especially after we have had some dark, cloudy days.  How thankful we are to see the moon    and stars shine brightly in the night sky when we go out at night.  We even notice that our plants always turn towards the light.

We read of the old lamplighters who went up and down the streets at dark lighting the street lamps.  They carried a light on a long pole to light the old gas lamps along the street.  The lamplighter himself couldn’t be seen, but anyone who  looked down the street and saw the lights burning,  could see where he had been.

In the darkness of the world today we have the privilege of being a lamplighter for God.  We are just the carrier of His light , those through whom He can shine forth.  We are called to be the light of the world.

A priest asked the children for a definition of a saint.  One girl eagerly raised her hand and said, “A saint is a person that the light shines through.”

“Let your light so shine before people, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven.: (Matt. 5:16) God is saying, “You are the light of the world”

Arise – now Shine.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Leo Lariviere, Chaplain

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers,

On behalf of the entire executive, we truly hope that every brother and their family have had a very safe & relaxing summer. Now that the month of September has arrived, we are going to be very busy with many upcoming events.

On behalf of the executive and the entire membership, I would like to offer condolences to Brother Al O’Neil and wife Carol on the recent loss of Brother Al’s sister in July. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

On August 14th, our council hosted our sister council “Robert Jones Council“ from Lincoln Park Michigan. It is always a pleasure to have this great council as our guests for this event. Thanks to Worthy Grand Knight Tony Longo & his wife Charlene & the entire Robert Jones entourage for such a great day. Thanks to all our volunteers for their help as there were too many to name, and I would hate to leave anyone out. Thanks to Janice Brockman for her outstanding work in helping prepare for this great day along with her many helpers. I also need to thank a couple of our organizers, 1st, our Chairman Bro. Phil Lefrancois who organized the day with Robert Jones & DGK Dave Taylor for organizing the team for the competitive game. I think everyone in attendance had a wonderful day & we are looking forward to next year already.

On September 12th, we will have a breakfast immediately following the 10:00 am mass. This breakfast will be on a donation basis with proceeds going to St. Vincent de Paul society here in McGregor. Immediately following the breakfast all members & parishioners are invited to stay and witness our installation of officers. We will be joined by our own Squire Circle, as they will be installed with the Knights. We hope to see everyone out. Please call ahead to the hall if possible to let us know if you plan to attend.

Brothers, there have been many bingos over the summer, and they will continue every month. Please give Mary-Anne Renaud a call @ 736-2724 if you can help out. Bro. Ulric Renaud & his wife Mary-Anne continue to Chair our bingo committee, and month after month they need workers to help sell cards, run for the payouts etc. PGK Eli Bertrand & Bro. Gord Renaud are also working & helping month after month. Their help is greatly appreciated along with the many Bro(s) and their wives that continue to come out. If you have the time, please consider volunteering for this great fundraising effort. A very big thank you to Ulric, Mary-Anne, Eli & Gord. Boy what a team!!!!!!

Our 1st General Dinner meeting of the new fraternal year will be held on Wednesday September 8th, with dinner @ 6:30pm with the meeting to follow @ 7:30pm. For those of you that have not had a chance to come out, please consider this as your invitation to come out and enjoy a great meal, and a very good informative meeting. Please remember to call the hall if possible to help us with a count for the meals.

Our Spaghetti Nights will be starting up again in Friday, September 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Fish Fry(s) this month will be sponsored by the Columbian Squires. They are always held on the 2nd & 4th Friday of every month. Thanks to our entire family who month after month continue to pull these volunteers together to work these functions.

Brothers, please mark your calendar for Saturday November 13th. We are holding our 63rd Annual Banquet with the Deceased Members Mass @ 5:00 PM at St. Clements Parish, with the banquet to follow. Thanks to Bro. Paul Sylvester for chairing this annual event. Tickets will be available after September 15th. Please call him early, as I’m sure the tickets will sell out fast. You can reach Paul @ 726-6357.

In closing, on behalf of myself, and your 2004/2005 executive, have a great month, and please get involved in your council !!!!!

Fraternally Yours,

Chuck Roy

DISTRICT DEPUTIES REPORT

Dear Brother Knights,

Summers over, Wow! Here we go again starting our next fraternal year. For those of you who have not heard we have a new State Deputy. Brother John Clancey will be at the reins for the next year or two. Everyone in succession on the State Board moved up and we elected a new State Warden. Brother Steve Caza has moved into this position. Now that it is official that Brother John Clancey is the State Deputy, I can inform everyone that he has asked me to stay on for another year. So I will be returning as your District Deputy.

I would like to welcome a couple of new Grand Knights. In Essex Council Brother Tom Bonneau moves up from Deputy Grand Knight. In LaSalle Council Brother Len Hewitt also moves up from the Deputy position. Welcome Brothers Tom and Len, I know that they will be an asset to the district and do a great job. In McGregor and Maidstone Brother Chuck Roy and Brother Gord Edwards Jr. return as their councils Grand Knights. They will bring experience to the table at the district meetings. We have a new council added to the district. Its Council 1453, Windsor Council and talk about experience Brother Robert Bezaire has been Grand Knight there since 2001. I know all the councils in the district will make our new brothers welcome. I am looking forward to another great year in district 88.

I would also like to thank Brother Jeff Beach and Brother Greg Moore our retiring Grand Knights from Essex and LaSalle. They helped to make District 88 what I would like to think is the best District in Ontario. Each year the district gets better and better and I have all the members of the councils to thank. With out the hard working membership we would not be able to do all this wonderful work for our churches, youth and communities.

The Icon is traveling around the State of Ontario once again and will be in our area in October. Support your councils pray services focused around the Icon when they hold them.

For the incoming executives of the councils, I will be looking forward to meeting all of you at your council meetings. I would hope to see all of you at the district meeting in September at Maidstone Councils hall on the Tuesday the 21st at 8:00 P.M. Please make sure that you watch for your council to announce when the installation of officers will be held. It is very important that you attend this installation. Once again let’s make this another banner year in our District.

Fraternally Yours,

Gordon Edwards

District Deputy, District 88
