CHAPLAINS REPORT

Brothers,

                Welcome back to our Council.

It has been a hot and humid summer – but we survived – so far!

This is my first attempt at writing for our KC Bulletin.  Fr. Leo Lariviere is usually at the pen doing this                     but he is under medical care these days.

We continue to pray for our chaplain – that God will grant Fr. Leo good health, more years of life and

continued example in the faith that unites us.

Our FAITH.

That is what really brings us together.

No, it’s not the socials, the bar, nor the bbq's – it’s our wonderful faith in Christ that is at the centre of all we do.

If it were not for our catholic faith – our Council nor St. Clements Church would be standing today.

We salute those moms and dads who have passed on this gift of faith to us long ago.  We thank our former priests here in McGregor

who spent their lives working for the faith.

We are hopeful today for the young people of our community that they too will know Christ through our families and the good work

of our Council.  God bless our Squirettes and Squires who help to build up the spirit of our community.

Your generosity, your witness and your prayers this new KC year add to the fraternity and community of our local Council.

Thank you, Fr. Leo for praying for us – in your time of healing.

We have begun again.  We are blessed to work together!

Yours in Christ

Fr. Bill Kornacker

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Brothers,

Grand Knight’s Report

Welcome back Brothers ,

I would first like to start by thanking all the people who have helped with our Spaghetti Dinners & Fish fry’s throughout the summer. These events are only successful due the dedicated members & spouses who volunteer their time to keep our council strong.

A special thanks goes to Gary Gardin, Chuck Roy, and Frank Van der Pryt who have spent many hours keeping things rolling in the manager’s absence.

On behalf of the council I would like to extend our condolences to Brother Al O’Niel and his family  on the passing of his brother.

The annual baseball tournament against Robert Jones Council is Aug 20 over on the U.S. side. Hard to believe it has been twenty–five years since the first game. I bet the knights who first started this event never thought it would still be going strong 25 years later. Always a fun filled day with good friends and brother knights. Lets hope this year we bring the trophy back home with us. Ha ha.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the first general membership meeting Sept. 14, 2005 and please remember get active in you council.

Fraternally Yours

Dave Taylor

Grand Knight

COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT

As summer is winding down and autumn is on the horizon the calendar is quickly filling up with events for our banquet hall and clubroom.  The broasted chicken continues to provide a good revenue stream.  In response to all of the phone calls asking for chicken on Thursday nights, we will consider adding availability.  The lunch business has been excellent.  So much so that we have added a second cook, and on Mondays and Fridays we have added a student server.  We will continue to adjust staff to requirements.

The biggest thing that happened during the summer was the retirement of our manager.  Even though we had a “heads up” about 2 years ago of a tentative retirement date of August 2005, it was still a surprise when it happened.  We placed ads in the Windsor Star and 3 local papers for a replacement and received close to 30 applicants.  We studied the resumes and narrowed the list down to 9 candidates.  A HUGE thank you to Bro. Chuck Roy for helping me with the interview process on August 3rd and August 5th.  As a result of those interviews we short-listed 4 candidates.  They will be interviewed in random order by the entire board on August 24th.  At that point we will try to settle on our 1st and 2nd choice.  We will then try to negotiate salary etc. with those candidates.  Assuming the final candidate will have to give notice to his/her employer, it is not likely that we will have a new General Manager in place before early September.

In the interim we have divided the management duties amongst several people.  Bro. Frank Van der Pryt has been doing the computer data input.  Bros. Dale Martin, Chuck Roy and I have been preparing the bank deposits.  I have enlisted the aid of Janice Brockman to put out the fires on a daily basis and she has performed above and beyond the call of duty.  She has been indispensable and I am very grateful for her efforts as well as all the brother knights who have stepped up to the plate during this period.

The entire Columbian Club Board wishes Sue a long and happy retirement.
